Local Cricket Club boosted by Sponsorship Package from colemans

Old Trafford solicitors colemans-ctts have awarded Whalley Range CC £3000 over two seasons to help develop one of the few clubs in Manchester’s inner city.

The funds will be invested into the redevelopment of the club as well as facilities and equipment. Cricket chairman Mike Hill commented: “This money is very welcome indeed. Cricket is an expensive game – ground preparation, equipment, cricket balls and umpires get more costly every year, and we rarely have surplus cash to invest in improving facilities. The sponsorship from colemans-ctts  will allow us to do so.”

First team skipper and Whalley Range’s leading run-scorer of all time Paul Davies added: “We aim to make this community club a major force in local cricket over the next few years. We are working with Lancashire Cricket Board and Manchester Cricket Development Association to be the first club in Manchester to achieve Clubmark accreditation, and with the support of the sponsorship from colemans-ctts and our alliance with William Hulme GS, the ground and its facilities will be transformed.”

The club, which is over 150 years old, runs four adult teams, three in the Manchester & District Cricket Association, as well as junior teams from U9s to U18s, drawing players from Old Trafford, Chorlton, Whalley Range, Fallowfield, Longsight, Hulme and Moss Side, as well as the area’s universities.

“We are always looking at ways in which we can give something back to the local community” said colemans-ctts Senior Partner Roger Coleman. “Along with our pro-bono work at Trafford Law Centre, Whalley Range Cricket Club was something we wanted to support. It is one of the few remaining inner city clubs and has an excellent standing in the local community. We are proud and delighted to help support the club.”

Whalley Range 1st XI won the First Division title last season and were promoted to the Premier Division, whilst the 2nd XI won the Surridge Cup. Brother Zarrar and Waqas Malik represented M&DCA in the Interleague Cup.
