As senior partner Roger’s role is analogous to that of a chief executive. He has overall responsibility for the direction and strategy of the practice with particular emphasis on finance and compliance. He is also managing partner of the Manchester office, and in addition he also undertakes day to day legal work.
Roger has particular expertise in serious personal injury work, particularly brain injury claims. He also handles professional indemnity claims, for which he is on the Law Society’s panel, and some commercial litigation.
Roger helped establish the practice in the early 1980s. The past 25 years for Roger have provided him with a succession of highlights both in connection with the growth and success of the business, and in connection with his legal work. Probably the most complex case he has ever handled is Burridge-v-Airworks plc which involved difficult issues of jurisdiction in addition to complicated arguments over quantifying the future losses of a retired professional footballer. Academically, obtaining an MBA with distinction in 2004 after a gap of some 25 years since he last studied was a real highlight.
For a brief period in June 2006 he was undisputedly the top lawyer in Europe – when he completed an ascent of Mont Blanc!
