What is a Compromise Agreement?

A compromise agreement is the legally-binding agreement that states an employee will not make a claim against their employer in a tribunal in return for a financial settlement.

They usually follow redundancies and unfair dismissals, but are used to avoid legal action as compromise agreements are the only way a claim can be legally binding without starting tribunal proceedings.

However, one condition of the agreements is that you have the process explained to you by an independent solicitor, who must also sign the document.

How Can Our Solicitors Help?

Our approachable lawyers - based in Manchester and Kingston - will be able to tell you everything you need to know about compromise agreements, such as the information contained in the documents, their requirements, your rights and their benefits.

It is, of course, necessary for a solicitor to provide advice to the employee in question for the agreement to be legally binding. However, the documents can be complicated and contain a lot of legal language that is difficult to understand. Our compromise agreement solicitors will explain it to you in simple terms.

We can also help you negotiate new terms if what is being offered is inadequate and tell you if we believe you may be better off actually pursuing a legal claim at a tribunal.
